Show Reviews:
written on 10.01.11: last night?s show was amazing and awesome, in the truest, most unadulterated sense. the setlist was heavy on the new songs, which i gladly welcomed. mercy (my favorite, most-played track off modern love) is a perfect opener. queen of (k)nots (f/tainted love and the tiniest snippet of personal jesus) was a serious kick in the ass. my favorite line is: you?re someone else?s baby/yeah, you?re someone else?s crazy now. room @ the end of the world makes me think of the sparse cover of shel silverstein?s where the sidewalk ends. two ends at once, about to fall off the edge. the whole modern love theme - that we are intricately connected without being intimately so - is something i think about a lot (within and without the love context) and i love this song as much for its perspective as its sound. as for old favorites, pretty the world will always rank high on my list: still, you bolded all your best words so they?d have something to wrap their mouths around show me how pretty the world is ?cause i envy the way that you move show me how pretty the world is ?cause i want something a little bit louder * bare was a pleasant surprise and all we are is so uplifting. it was a treat to hear both. nine years ago, i saw matt play a show for a large handful of people on my college campus. since then, i?ve seen him at smaller venues, alternating between the solo acoustic style that drew me in and the full-band energy i?ve grown to love equally. last night, i had an aerial view of him rocking 3,000 faces. i could not be prouder. ~jocelyn
