+ Stay!

Was going through all the great videos that UnderTheTable posted...and I caught a quick note in one of them that Matt joked about "Stay" being on his new album.

Could it be? The two songs I still think need to make their way to an album are Prove to Me and Stay. I can never remember the back story behind the hold up on Prove to Me, but getting Stay on the studio would be awesome.

There is a studio version of Stay already, it was supposed to be a bonus track on SMH but they withheld it for one reason or another. It would be KICKASS if they put it on the new album though.

And sorry dude, no links to unreleased studio recordings. I don't feel like being sued by Vanguard.

so...there is a studio to I can't get to what you need....which is my personal favorite song, and it isnt available....so I guess in this case, I cant get to what I need.
This song will, if not overproduced, be a big hit OMHO. Its got a rare amount of power to it.

Mm, while I do like Can't Get To a whole lot, I really see no potential for it as a mainstream hit. It has the potential to be a classic fan favorite, but it's not really that marketable as far as radio and tv would be concerned. Stay, on the other hand, has potential for both of those, and would make an excellent single once this phantom new album comes together. I'm still all for Beat being the next single though, especially once it starts getting warm again. It's such a summery song, kids'll go nuts over it.

true.... I cant get to what you need isn't a typical mainstream song, but then neither was James Blunt-your beautiful, and it took off. I personally think I cant get to what you need to be a better song. People like simple, basic songs with emotional meaning. If given the chance, it could do well. Everyone I've ever played it around has added it to their playlists. Plus, not trying to toot my own horn, but the last 3 unreleased and unrecorded songs by people I thought would do well all hit #1 on some chart or another.

I don't have any super strong feelings about what goes on a new record, or what should be the next single.

But I l.o.v.e I Can't Get To What You Need. And hearing it mentioned in the same paragraph as You're Beautiful made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Carry on...

laurel- well said actually. I should have been clearer, personally not a fan of your beautiful whatsoever. Was just making a point that if that song could be so big, cant see why a superior song by a better singer/songwriter couldnt!

You have to keep in mind that a big part of the reason "You're Beautiful" broke so big the way it did is that it was huge in Europe first. The only reason I even know that is because I happened to be in Europe as it was rising there. When I came home I was really excited to be away from it... and the next week it was released here. And I love it, I really do, but I'd never release it as a single. Just my 'pinion. Feel free to ignore me.

Part of the problem with the studio version of "I Can't Get To What You Need" is that the virst verse is so quiet. That's strike one for it being a radio hit. Good song, but not hit worthy. Kind of like "Sooner Surrender".

Now, "Stay"...there's a good single song.

That's awesome news that Stay will be on the next CD. On SMH, I was surprised that Car Crash and Gone didn't make it as hits, but am holding out hold that someone in radio likes Falling Apart as much as I do. Or that something really crazy happens and people realize that Beneath These Fireworks is top to bottom radio ready.

I think this is mostly speculation as to what songs will be on the new album. It may be highly likely.. but I wouldn't get your hopes up- just in case.

Derek,

Not for nothing. I believe Matt or someone with in the Matt camp has said Stay "WILL BE" on the next album. As I also believe "I Can't get to what you need" will as well considering he was singing it during the fall tour. Prove to me, and Bottom of the Sea have not been. Just food for thought.

Besides, speculation is fun! Gives me something to do in these really long music business classes. =)

Drew - I agree with you! Falling Apart is the best song on SMH and Beneath These Fireworks does not have a throw away song on it - all great!!
