I love room at the end of the world. I personally think its one of the best songs hes written lyrically.

'these streets are haunted with ghosts who wait on luck to come. they sleep with hornets and wonder why they wake up stung.'

i think that will really connect with alot of people. Run will definitely get him alot of exposure if its released as a single. hes making the right moves on this record

Hate to say it, but I don't love it. As the new songs have come out, it just feels like it isn't the same person that wrote New Coats and Hats, Bulletproof Weeks, etc. With the exception of Room at the End, Drop to Hold You and Bototm of the Sea, there's an element of depth that's missing for me. Queen of (K)nots is Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus". Just my initial reaction from a few YouTube videos and a minute and a half previews. As a longtime fan, I really, really hope this one is a grower.

I'll agree this isn't my favorite collection of songs from Matt either, but he's written so many great songs over the years. He'd have to play several sets to hit all of my favorites, and I can't really say that about any other artist (except maybe one other). The only two I know I won't ever personally like are 'Mercy' and 'Queen of (K)nots'; however, if Matt enjoys playing those, and he's proud of them, then I'm happy with them too. There are so many more songs in his catalog which I might call Matt's "classic vintage sound", so I hardly think a few new ones that deviate from that pattern are going to change Matt too much. I do miss the solo acoustic shows though and the greatest guitar in the world, the Taylor 655 12 string; he doesn't use it as much as he once did. With that being said, several songs on this album are really, really good: like "Room At The End Of The World", "Run", "Kept", and "Modern Love"; I haven't heard "Drop To Hold You", "Kiss Quick", or "Love Comes Tumbling Down" in their entirety, but the previews give them lots of promise. "Bottom Of The Sea" reminds me of "Little Victories", and that's always been one of my favorites, so I'm definitely liking that one too; there are a few more happy songs here than in past releases, which is a nice change. I'm really excited to get my copy of Modern Love :)
