Does anyone else think it a little odd that Matt is on tour with Kelly Clarkson? On the one hand, I think the exposure for him is great--but just seems a strange match to me. That is unless he is truly embracing his pop side...or creating it.

Every since Matt stopped touring with the likes of Howie Day and John Mayer Matt has been touring with a lot of artists that I would never guess in a million years would work out for him but Matt always seems to kill it and gain a ton of fans everywhere he goes.

Maroon5, OAR, and Sugarland just to name a few.

I'm glad for situations that gain him fans. That said, these bands are not his fanbase, at least not us. Howie Day, John Mayer, etc - those are similar artists. I hate country and would never go see country-pop Sugarland. And definitely not Kelly Clarkson. I don't want to call it "selling out" because that term is overused, and I don't think he's purposefully doing that. But it doesn't make any sense to those that have been fans since the early 2000's.

I'm not sure those shows are for his fans so much as they are for getting more exposure, and those are probably the biggest offers he's got, and he felt it'd be too big of an opportunity to turn them down. The reason he's not touring with artists like Howie or John is probably because he hasn't been offered a spot on a tour like that yet. I'd like to see Matt co-headline with Augustana (now just Dan Layus and David Lamoreaux) on either a solo tour or with just Aaron Tapp. I think it'd do quite well, and he'd probably appeal to Augustana fans... as I am certainly big fans of both. I'm sure most of us wouldn't mind him getting back to his solo acoustic routes and see him play with up-and-coming solo artists like David Ramirez, Steven Fiore, or Brendan James. :)

The first time I saw Matt he was with Howie. I've seen him with Carbon Leaf, Charlotte Martin, and a lot of others who have been more genre specific for him. I know that change, while hard to accept sometimes, is necessary for survival because to be static is to die. I, for selfish reasons, don't want him to go completely pop, and I don't think he will. Although none of us can speak, with complete accuracy, to another person's intent or need. If doing shows with Sugarland or Kelly Clarkson makes it possible for him to tour as a headliner on his own terms, then I'm all for it. I hope he will be able to do shows in the smaller venues still where we can all enjoy the intimacy we have come to treasure about his shows. I doubt I will make it to any of the Clarkson shows--too expensive, I'm sure.

Tickets in St. Louis run between $32 and $59 plus fees. Too much for me because the event would also require a hotel and such, or drive two hours home after the show. I love Matt--but not with this headliner and ticket price.

I for one was glad to see Matt wasn't coming to Minneapolis with Kelly Clarkson, which hopefully means he'll stop by here on a headlining gig. There's nothing better than seeing Matt in a nice intimate venue where he can interact with the crowd.

I too, am hoping for a headlining visit to Columbia, MO--I know he likes the Blue Note and it is a good venue for him. He always fills the place and the crowd loves him. Although, he has threatened during various shows here to kick someone's ass--only time I ever heard him say that he hoped a guy would get hit by a bus. Anyway, he has two dates in Missouri with Clarkson, and my dream come true would be to have him stop at the Blue Note between the Springfield and St. Louis dates for an acoustic show. Probably as likely as winning the lottery :)

So when will the random headlining dates trickle out? I don't mind Kelly Clarkson, but I hate those prices.

I was not thrilled with the dates that came out yesterday. Hoping the midwest swing comes out in his next annoucement.

Yes! I got my wish--The Blue Note in Columbia, MO on March 15. So happy about this!! No openers posted as of yet, maybe a solo show? Have there been openers on any of the dates so far?

I think at this point while he can still do the headlining club shows, he's got to grow his fan base and that's what the Sugarland and Kelly Clarkson dates are all about - his longevity. I'm more shocked by The Bachelor appearance than the CMA and more popular headlining acts he's opening for. As someone mentioned, it's all about exposure and taking the opportunity for people to embrace the music.

He is gaining new fans from these shows. I have friends who went just to see Kelly and came away fans of Matt and planning to see his solo shows.
